WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Johnathan Rigby joined PMS Diecasting Ltd to run the new laser scanning equipment in the quality department. He soon realised the external commercial potential for this state-of-the-art equipment. Backed by Gordon Panter, he created an independent department that provided a commercial inspection service to potential new external customers via the website. Business has been conducted with over 700 companies during the last 5 years. The original metal and glass office measured 4m x 2m. Original investment in a state-of-the-art Nikon LK-V 8.7.6 CMM and a Nikon LC15Dx laser scanner captured the measurement of parts to within 1-micron accuracy.
Christian Panter temporarily joined the LS team. The company drew kudos from being featured in a Nikon Metrology Case Study.
LS moved premises, along with PMS Diecasting and GoTools, to Unit 10 Braithwell Way, Hellaby, Rotherham. Our Metal and Glass room measuring 6m x 4m.
Jack Carroll and John Rigby joined as Laser Scanning Technicians.
Our first offsite scanning job was serviced with the help of a hired portable laser scanning arm from a fellow competitor in order to complete the work. This was a big learning experience for us but the job was a great success. Not long after, LS received its own equipment and this was just the start of many journeys as far afield as Northern Ireland, the Isle of Wight, Aberdeen and Norway.
Joel Brasher-Jones joined short term, as a Design Engineer.
A further premises move (adding a separate office to our scanning room), along with GoTools into Unit 10 across the road from PMS.
Key investment in capability offering an improved portable scanning service was
made in a new, larger, articulated scanning arm along with 2 new laser scanners. Laser Scanning was now working with over 125 customers. In 2015 sales increased by 44% from £157k in 2014 to £227k.
Toby Bradley joined as a Design Engineer.
Laser Scanning join the GTMA.
Matthew Ayris joined (short term) as a Design Engineer. During the year, a telemarketing initiative was employed to win new business. Identified over 70k potential customers in our key markets sectors: Automotive, Aerospace, Medical, Manufacturing, Product Design, Engineering and Tool Making.
Laser Scanning moved out of GoTools and into Unit 9d with CGR Automotive.
Laser Scanning attended its biggest exhibition yet standing with CGR Automotive at Autosport Engineering in the NEC at Birmingham.
Laser Scanning attended Automechanica 2016 at the NEC, exhibiting with the GLIDE group of companies.
Laser Scanning was finally rolled out of PMS and began trading independently as Laser Scanning Ltd.
Nikon Metrology asked LS Ltd to provide an inspection service to JCB Power Systems in Derby for an initial 6 weeks. This contract was such a success that we have had one of our technicians onsite ever since, helping their quality department with goods-in inspection, CMM programming and training. Later, in January 2018, LS formally became a direct supplier to JCB. LS Ltd became an independent member of the Employee Ownership Association.
Laser Scanning moved yet again, for the 4th time in 4 years! But this time with a difference – to our own stand alone premises, comprising over 2000sq/ft of space over 2 floors. Featuring a reception area with disabled toilets, kitchen, meeting room, offices, new inspection room, space for our own GLIDE lounge and a large storage room. This was a proud and significant moment in the company’s evolution. Brian Bradley joined as a Laser Scanning Technician.
Laser Scanning Ltd took delivery of an even larger CMM, expanding capacity and capability to further support the JCB contract and offer more to existing and new customers.
Tracey Gaudion-Rigby joined the staff as office administrator.
Laser Scanning joined the FSB.
